Sliders is a one-hour action/adventure series with a touch of black comedy.
The series chronicles the cosmic roller coaster ride taken by four eclectic
characters who discover a "wormhole" between dimensions that transports them to parallel
universes. Led by Quinn Mallory (Jerry O'Connell), a handsome physics grad student who
accidentally creates the gateway while working on an experiment in his basement, the
interdimensional travelers include Maggie Beckett (Kari Wuhrer), air force pilot from
an earth ravaged by pulsars; Colin Mallory (Charlie O'Connell), Quinn's alternate brother
from a parallel universe where Quinn died in infancy; and former R&B singer Rembrandt
"Crying Man" Brown (Cleavant Derricks), who is sucked into the vortex by mistake as he
drives by Mallory's house.
Other Sliders include brilliant and arrogant physics
professor Maximillian Arturo (John Rhys-Davies), who gave his life protecting his friends
from Colonel Angus Rickman; and Wade Welles (Sabrina Lloyd), a beautiful computer tech who
is kidnapped by ape-like Kromaggs upon her return to Earth Prime.
Each week, the Sliders travel to a parallel universes, all of which are present-day alternate
versions of Earth, where history has created a different existance. In the past three seasons,
the Sliders encountered worlds where the Communists won the Cold War, nuclear winter prevailed,
where the male gender was considered the weaker sex, where interaction with the paranormal was
commonplace and where the city of San Francisco was a prison facility.
Now entering its fourth season on
the SciFi Channel, the Sliders discover that their
home earth has been conquered by a race called the Kromaggs (seen in the second season episode
"Invasion"), and Quinn and Maggie are reuinted with Rembrandt. On their journey through the
interdimension to free their earth from hostile rule, the Sliders encounter an alternate version
of the brother Quinn never had, played by Jerry O'Connell's real-life brother, Charlie.
The fourth season of Sliders will begin in June of 1998. To learn more about the show, consult
